My Thoughts - Why This Book

The very first class I took in college was a psychology class. I knew I wanted to help people. Perhaps it was because I had gone through quite a bit of turbulence in my own life and had developed great empathy for others. Years later, I discovered an inner healing ministry called Sozo and, in 2011, I began to lead people through profound times of deep healing—spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.

Along the way, I have gone through my own inner healing journey. I’m thankful for the foundation of Sozo since it was what helped me navigate and process when my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2017.

I didn’t know that a book would come out of that 22-month long season. It wasn’t until the end of her life, when a miracle happened, that I knew the story had to be told.

The story is, at times, difficult to read. My mom and I had definite challenges in our relationship. When it was good, it was great and when it was not so good, it was really hard. I know I am not the only one who has struggled or is struggling with a loved one who is stubborn and difficult to be in a relationship with. I am also aware that some situations are much more difficult than mine was. Whatever the journey entails, the one thing I do know is that a person cannot make it through a season of caregiving without some sort of spiritual connection and, for some, a spiritual awakening.

My intention for writing the book is to reveal the goodness of God in the face of a terminal illness and the reality of death. Of course, I do not use this word lightly, but death is a part of life and sooner or later there may come a time when you find yourself in a season of caring for a loved one. That is where I so unexpectedly found myself.

Caregiving is hard. It requires sacrifice and, at times, unconditional love. There are many twists and turns along the way. For those who have gone through or are currently in the season of caregiving, you will be able to relate in many ways to what I share in the book. For others, this may be new ground. Perhaps reading this book will help you feel prepared if there comes a time when you must care for a loved one who is suffering with a terminal or debilitating illness. Or, maybe you know someone who needs to hear what is written in this book and want to share it.

What happens at the end of life? Within the space of the unknowns, sometimes God makes something known. God chooses, for whatever reason, to reveal something supernatural and, what I would call, miraculous. I wrote The Highest of Care for that purpose. I wanted to show where God was along the way and, in the end, demonstrate His eternal glory revealed in a spectacular way. You are part of God’s eternal promises; this book will help you discover what that means. I have been a Christian for 30 years and what happened with my mom as she left this earth is something I could have never described unless I saw it with my own eyes.

You are invited to journey with me through the valleys and up to the mountaintops—to arrive at the place where God takes over and provides His highest of care. My greatest prayer is that you will encounter the Creator in such a way that you are transformed because of His faithfulness, goodness, and eternal promises.

Step into the story—my story. Once you read it, come back to this website. I will be going deeper into each chapter and sharing further details of my caregiving journey. I believe each chapter has more to reveal and I am thrilled that you are here, reading this blog.

This book is written for you and I am honored to share the miraculous message that you will find at the end of the story.

God bless you as you journey,
Lisa
