My Thoughts – Chapter 2: Troubled Waters

How does one prepare to care for an aging parent when there has never been a reason to be concerned about a potential health issue? My prayer is that this book will provide somewhat of a roadmap to help you or someone you know navigate through the challenges that come with a sudden health crisis. Have you ever stepped into a situation where your gut instinct was letting you know there might be something more than a simple issue going on? That is what happened with my mom. I knew her situation was not going to be simple.

In this chapter, I reveal some of the challenges that were present in our relationship. Sometimes interactions with our parents are less than ideal and distance seems to be the anecdote to preserving the relationship. This was true in my situation. The truth is, my mom and I had a better relationship when there was distance between us. But I was keenly aware that Mom was getting older and there might come a day when she would need me in a greater capacity. That time came quicker than I could have ever planned and I was truly unprepared for what was to come.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus ~ Philippians 4:7
